Fittingly, team "anchor" Tim Surface helped the RRO Elite Triathlon Team wrap up an amazing year of racing by traveling to Clearwater Florida to participate in the prestigious
Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3. This 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run event obviously featured some of the worlds most talented triathletes and, as expected, Tim fit right in!
Despite some struggles with cramping during the bike portion of the event, Tim persevered and finished in a very fast time of 4:03, good enough for 2nd in his age group. In fact, had this event not been modified to include a time-trial start in the bay due to choppy waters in the Gulf, Tim would have known who his competition was and likely gone the 1 second faster to lay claim to 1st place. Ugh, so close!
Tim's
splits were 31:08 for the swim, 2:11:44 for the bike, and 1:15:25 for the run.
Great job, Tim!
